According to Sports Illustrated:

Utah Jazz agreed to release guard Derek Fisher from his contract Monday so he can concentrate on finding the best care for his 11-month-old daughter, who has cancer in her left eye.

My friend’s daughter, who is just a hair older than my 3-year-old, had retinoblastoma and had to undergo a lot of chemotherapy and had a radioactive plaque put in her eye at one point. The doctors were originally afraid she may lose her sight in one eye and half her sight in the other, but she, as far as I know, is doing great and has had no vision loss!

I hope Mr. Fisher’s daughter sees similarly good results. It’s good to see a professional athlete with some sense and his priorities and heart in the right place, for a change. How sad that Mr. Fisher has to be the exception rather than the rule.
