I’ve noticed lately, in the print and TV media, that race is usually not offered when a suspect is described. Has anyone else noticed this? I am going to post examples with links before long, but I find it highly stupid for the news to report that the police are looking for a murder suspect, for example, and give a description like, “the suspect is 5′10″ – 6′1″ with dark hair and brown eyes.”
Did someone decide it was somehow racist to tell a suspect’s race? For arguments’ sake, let’s say there are 1 million people in Davidson County who fit that description. Wouldn’t it make sense to eliminate some of the possible suspects by adding race to the description? Is the media afraid of reporting the truth?
Hmmm…..no Kevin Miller this morning. Found that odd. I called WTN just now and spoke to the lady who answered the phone and all she knew, or would say, is that he was cancelled and Wednesday was his last day.
She said that anyone who called the station was to be directed to the program manager, but I didn’t bother. I didn’t think they’d tell me what happened. If you want to call and try to find something out, call 321-1067.
The lady I spoke with seemed to have been taken by surprise by the news, so there’s no telling if Miller was given any kind of warning or advance notice or what happened.
I am a white student at Tennessee State University, a Historically Black University. First, let me say I have never had any problems with anyone there. That’s not what I am posting about. I know some people who claim to have been verbally abused there because they were white, but I have had no such experiences.
No, what I am posting about is something I noticed at school yesterday. A black student was wearing camo pants, what looked like combat boots, and a black muscle shirt. Hanging around his neck, strung on a shoelace to create a necklace, was a banana. Written on the banana was “Ape” and a number. (I won’t specify this number just to keep him anonymous, in case his friends stumble onto this blog).
The only thing I could figure out is that maybe he was pledging for a fraternity and this was part of an initiation or hazing event. I just thought it was completely irresponsible and hypocritical for black students to refer to their peers as “apes”, even in jest.
I guess I just don’t understand why someone would take something that has been used as a racial slur, of sorts, and call each other that same thing. Kind of like the n-word, I suppose. They call each other a variation of that as a sign of friendship or whatever. I just don’t get it.
Listening to Phil Valentine yesterday afternoon on WTN, I heard someone talking about a solution to the war that should appeal to both sides of the issue.
This made me think about other problems we face right now, and I believe I came up with a solution to a couple different problems that will make everyone happy.
Problems:
Illegal Immigration: People are coming here illegally from Mexico. Some people, myself included, don’t like it and want them all deported. Others argue, “they’re doing jobs Americans won’t do” and want to give them amnesty.
War in Iraq: One camp says we need to stay the course….not cut and run. We need to keep fighting until the job is done. The other side says we need to bring our folks home.
Solution:
The solution for these two problems is an all-in-one-shot solution. Send the illegal aliens to fight in Iraq. Liberals are happy because the aliens will have jobs and are doing the jobs (fighting) liberal Americans don’t want Americans doing. Conservatives are happy because the illegals are being deported, and we’re not just leaving Iraq with a cut and run policy.
Happy side effect: the BS pork-laden spending bill the Democrats are trying to push on us will no longer be necessary. Illegal aliens work for cash under the table, so they will work for much less than the paltry sum we give our soldiers!
Illegal immigration and Iraq war problems solved in one fell swoop.
It seems every day someone is finding my blog searching for depressing songs, because I mentioned a few one day in a posting. I have taken my playlist, titled, “in a mood” and listed it below for those of you looking for some depressing songs, as I always do.
