Well, walked outside and there was one police officer in his car waiting for the event to start. People were starting to mill around in anticipation of a nude woman right here on 4th and Church, downtown Nashville!
A minute before noon, 3 officers pulled up on their scooters, and I noticed a PETA guy with the woman who would be grilled. She was wearing a black trenchcoat with what appeared to be nothing on underneath. Her skin was painted red and black as if she were charred meat.
Larger crowds started to gather and mill around. Another guy soon appeared with the “grill”, a wheeled cart on which she would lay, surrounded by cardboard flames. The crowd suddenly seemed to swell with people, as she took off her socks and began to disrobe. I was at a vantage point behind her and saw as she took off her coat that she was wearing a thong.
As she lay on the “grill”, it appeared she had pasties on, probably to avoid immediate arrest for indecent exposure, so they had more time to make their point. She lay down and one of the guys with her began spray painting her more, giving her more resemblance to charred meat. She lay there with her eyes closed as one of the Tennessean’s photographers (John Partipilo) began taking photos and as a video journalist with one of the stations here was filming.
I just went back down there and she was gone. They were still passing out flyers, so I took one to see what it was. Your basic PETA flyer: cute pigs on front, text on back describing the cruel ways food animals are treated, etc.
Photos are to come…..hopefully today but maybe more likely tomorrow
P.S.: I never did see them slather her in BBQ sauce

LOL they have a problem with people eating meat but have no problem what-so-ever with polluting the atmosphere by using spray paint. There is a word for people like that. Hypocrites

My coworker calls them hypocrites because they eat plants….plants are living creatures too!
Personally, if someone wants to be a vegetarian, for whatever reason, that is fine. Just don’t push your views on me and tell me I am a barbarian or something for eating meat.

D’oh. I’m a vegetarian but I certainly do not starve my (carnivore) cat and terrapin. Nor my significant other, for instance. In fact, I see no problem in keeping poultry for their eggs and eventually their meat. There’s no contradiction in that: I object the inhumane and unhealthy treatment of animals, not the natural course of things. I won’t still eat meat because I have a further set of beliefs, but that’s another point. I cook meat for others, if they desire so.
When somebody inquires about my choice, I explain my view in the most civil and rational way, but I surely never tried to push my beliefs on anyone, and I respect their view as much as I expect them to respect mine.
IMHO, the world wouldn’t necessarily be better if there were only vegetarians – especially the PETA-type. Sooner or later (sooner, I dare say) they would jump at each other’s throat, under pretext that you have to kill certain plants in order to eat them, or something.
Fanatics give us a bad name. At least here in Europe the scenario is slightly different (we have different societies, not PETA, and they are more reasonable)
I’ve been volunteering for many years and still do not want to be called an animalist. From personal experience, I came to the conclusion that many self-proclaimed animalists are motivated more by hatred towards those who think different than by love to the creatures their want to protect. They forget it was all about compassion in first place.
*shrugs* Just my two cents…

Good comment hroswith…..I’m glad you are sensible about your beliefs on the subject and don’t try to shove it down people’s throats….some people wanted to eat BBQ or other meats in front of the people protesting, but to me that is just shoving our beliefs down their throats
